Our Philosophy
Capability is a commodity.
Accountability is a competitive advantage.
Decision Surface™ Group was founded to bridge the widening gap between rapid AI adoption and the strict, non-negotiable demands of institutional risk management.
The "Black Box" Liability
The rapid adoption of agentic AI is outpacing traditional risk frameworks. Regulators are circling, and when an examiner asks why an AI agent made a specific decision on a loan application or a medical claim, "I don't know" is not an acceptable answer.
We created the Trust Harness™ methodology because regulated institutions cannot afford to run opaque systems. You need evidence that holds up to examiners, boards, and the public.
"Organizations don't need more AI hype. They need a systematic way to make agentic decisions legible, authorized, and auditable."

Who We Are

Neil W. Smith
Principal & Founder
Neil has been at the forefront of the IT industry since the 1980s, navigating and shaping every major paradigm shift from mainframes and minicomputers to PCs, handhelds, and the Cloud.
His early work in the '80s on expert medical diagnostic systems sparked a lifelong focus on the transition from rule-based AI to modern generative models. Recognizing the profound impact these systems would have on human organizations, Neil returned to university in 2000 to study neuroscience and psychology.
Today, he combines a deep technical understanding of machine learning with cognitive brain science to design hybrid human-machine workflows. Through Decision Surface™ Group, Neil helps institutions deploy AI that not only drives capability, but protects the organization and empowers the people who manage it.
